ANNUAL GOLF OUTING RAISES MONEY FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

“Resolve never to quit, never to give up, no matter what the situation.” - Jack Nicklaus

Just like professional golfer Jack Nicklaus stated in the quote above - Union County College students are resilient in the pursuit of their education and face the typical challenges of many two-year college students - how to pay for their education. Thanks to the funds raised through the annual events hosted by the Union County College Foundation, the burden of financing college is lessened. The Foundation’s Annual Golf Outing was held on May 2, 2011, and raised $76,000 for student scholarships. This year 110 golfers competed on the greens at the Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. And thanks to the support of Wells Fargo, and dozens of other sponsors, more of the funds raised were able to go to student scholarships this year.

Dignitaries in attendance this year included the City of Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage and Union County Freeholder Dan Sullivan. Also, Foundation Chair Carol Hertling put in hours of practice to hit the greens this year after a 10 year hiatus and had a great time.
